Throughout the centuries women have been represented in art predominantly through the 'male gaze', or from a man's point of view.

The Sapphosophy Archive hopes to show another perspective, 'the female gaze', or the women's point of view, by publishing lesbian comment on imagery in art, we hope to address the imbalance in art documentation.

A particular favourite in sapphosophy is the subject of film. This focuses on films, television and video with lesbian characters and plots, also films made by lesbian and women directors and films made by men with lesbian characters. We welcome your reviews, comments and articles about films and related to lesbian sexuality and experience.

Lesbiankamasutra would not be complete without gender studies and politics. This is a lesbian feminists project and we feel strongly about pushing the boundaries of lesbian sexuality.

Queer theory or gender studies, is a new complex academic subject politicizing the relationship between identity, sex, gender and sexuality. Queer as political strategy has its roots in the gay and lesbian civil right movement in the 1980s. Although intellectually very demanding, we consider this subject extremely important and very exciting.
